Rebuild time
I've been wanting to rebuild my Powerbook for quite some time, it finally took its toll after willy nilly installing what I've come across but now that I've settled down on what works for me I've backed up my data and zeroed out my discs.
The reinstallation went pretty well, I went with a single partition rather than my usual two partition (system and data) only because I only have one worry about running out of space rather than two :) I'm sure Photoshop will complain about the scratch disc sitting on the same partition. It'll live.
I've always enjoyed reading about what other people have used on their machines, herewith is a list that I run on my Mac:
- Adium - For MSN and Yahoo messengers
- Adobe Creative Suite 2 - Photoshop and Illustrator, both invaluable
- Colloquy - When I feel like chatting
- Firefox - Some sites freak out with Safari so I always keep this handy
- Flickr Uploadr - I'm really loving flickr these days
- Flip4Mac - View WMV videos on the Mac (now free!)
- Google Earth - Which needs no introduction
- HandBrake - Rip my dvd's
- Khronos - Keeping track of time
- MacTheRipper - More ripping stuff (no known website)
- MoviesForMyPod - as the name says!
- NetNewsWire - For all your RSS needs (eagerly awaiting the Sync Services!)
- OmniGraffle Professional - Drawing diagrams etc.
- OmniOutliner Professional - Jotting down notes
- Opera - Keeping Safari and Firefox honest
- PSPWare - Sync'n stuff to the PSP
- Safari - My main browser
- SubEthaEdit - Text editing, haven't had the chance to use the sharing ability. But cool nonetheless.
- TextMate - Everything I've ever wanted in an editor.
- Transmit - FTP (that also supports SFTP)
- URLwell - Awesome tool that sits in the menu bar saving URLs dragged onto it.
- ecto - this post brought to you by ecto!
- iTerm - My terminal replacement. Tabbed windows.
- iTunes - Music and Videos!
- iLife '06 - Mainly just iPhoto (which totally rocks now!) but hopefully soon I'll be into iMovie as well
- RsyncX - Great little tool to backup (go do it now!) stuff on my Mac and external drive
- MySQL - The DB I started off with on the Mac and seems to fit the bill for now
